Director Shan’s Visit to CHP

In September 29, 2007, CHP welcomed an honored guest to our office – the Director of State Administration of Cultural Heritage – Mr. Shan Jixiang. As a grassroots civil society, we were delighted to be able to interact and communicate with the top leader in cultural heritage management.

At 9AM, Director Shan and his colleagues came to our office for a visit. CHP’s Managing Director Hu Xinyu gave Director Shan a brief introduction to our work and programs, then escorted them to the exhibition of FoOB Phase I. After learning about the status of our project, Director Shan agreed with our approach to push for a better implementation of cultural heritage laws through civil society channels. At the same time, Director Shan also raised a few issues, including parts of the exhibition that we could develop and also encouraged us to raise more public awareness and develop more effective education programs among the local communities. Taking his invaluable suggestions into consideration, we modified our existing plan for FoOB at our weekly management meeting and addressed the important issues that he brought up.

Director Shan’s visit has given our volunteers high recognition for the work that they have completed. We are confident that from this day forward, our work on cultural heritage protection will be more effective
