The Culinary Enthusiasts are quite enthusiastic!

On Saturday, April 23, culinary enthusiasts came together at The Hutong to learn more about the culture of the city they love. Beijing Cultural Heritage Protection Center (CHP) and The Hutong presented Taste of Beijing, an exciting culinary journey of the capital.

Participants learned how to make three Old Beijing dishes – Ma Doufu (stir fried fermented tofu paste), Jiemo Dun (mustard paste with cabbage), and Zhajiangmian (Beijing style noodle with soybean paste) – using fresh and seasonal local ingredients. Participants were also recounted the stories behind the recipes. To finish off the beautiful spring afternoon, CHP Managing Director Lu Lei shared with participants the importance of cultural preservation and development challenges that Old Beijing faces.
