Heritage Trail project

Beijing is a dynamic metropolitan that has been evolving since the first bricks were laid on the ground of the ancient city in Shang dynasties. In a city so rich in culture, here we stand witnessing remnants of ancient civilization that speaks of China’s proud history. Although no longer serves as the city’s lifeline in the present days, these cultural heritage sites are milestones of China’s development as a nation.

As Beijing turned its attention to earning a world city status, the city has turned city walls and old hutongs in order to make way for highway and skyscrapers. Much of Beijing’s invaluable cultural heritage is gone forever. Since CHP was founded in 2003, we have been committed to protecting the Old City of Beijing and providing sustainable guidelines of how the old and the new Beijing can coexist harmoniously. We launched Friends of Old Beijing Project in 2006-2007, successfully halted North Xisi property development project in 2007. CHP has also met some achievements in saving Keyuan from a demolotion threat in 2009, in stopping Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin’s former residence from further demolition in 2009. Our most recent successful contribution is in halting the development plan of the Drum and Bell Tower Neighborhood Project in 2010.
